The Bible, (Men) calls the Messiah; “The Christ”. John 1:14; 4:25. However, both names means “Anointed One”. The question is (Anointed by whom and for what purpose?) YeHoVaH’ Anointed One was spoken about in ( Isa 61:1/Luk 4;18.)
NOW SEE; Psa 2:2-4 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against Yehovah, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bonds asunder, And cast away their cords from us. He that sits in the heavens will laugh: The Lord/YHVH will have them in derision. (ASV) (Heb 1:9)
Acts 10:38 even Yeshua of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (Psa 45:7)
So now we know which “Anointed One” was anointed by YeHoVaH and what was His purpose. This is another reason; “Why I chose to follow the Messiah.” But, there is a more compelling reason. You see; I Love Him. In my studies of Him as Jesus, I learned to appreciate all that He/Yeshua has done for me and what is required of me. (Which pales in comparison to what He has done and continues to do for me.)
It starts with the declaration by YeHoVaH thru John 3:16 For God so loved the world, (that’s you and me!) that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever (Again, you and me) believes on him should not perish, but have eternal life. I believe in “Yeshua” and so I have been given a promise of Eternal Life. (Note: Christ is Not the Messiah (Mat 1:16/John 4:25) {ASV}) He is only called, “Messias.”
Now, based on the Bible, Yeshua, did many wonderful things on the earth. (Mat 21:15) But for us today, He did what no man could do to benefit us, not even we ourselves! He walked on the earth, showing us the path and was crucified and died for us. So that we could have a chance at living forever. (Eternal Life).
Many Christian teachers have mistakenly claimed that Yeshua was trying to miss the stake, (begging YHVH to let the “cup of affliction” pass Him) in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Mat 26:36) (Mat 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
But, what is over looked is Yeshua’s words to His disciples; (Mat 26:38) Then said He unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: abide ye here, and watch with me. (His soul not His Spirit or not Him) And notice the end of His prayer. (Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.) Meaning: Not as my flesh/soul wills, but as Your Will be done. Then read His additional comment; (Mark 14:3) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Meaning; (Yeshua’ Spirit is willing, but His flesh is weak) (Mat 26:41) (John 1:14)
Yeshua knew His purpose, and embraced it. ( John 18:11) Then said Jesus/Yeshua unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? (Heb 12:2) Looking unto Jesus /Yeshua the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Yeshua, knowingly and willingly endured the shame and the stake for you and me. How can we not Love Him? He provides the path to “Eternal Life” (John 3:15) However, our requirements are substantial. We must Repent, asking His forgiveness for our own transgressions. (Phlp 2:12/Psa 2:11) We must learn His commandments, and do them, and His commands are not grievous (1 John 5:3)
(Mat 5:17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (i. e. to fill to the full) Yeshua came to complete the requirements that the Father commanded us. (Psa 40;7, 8) He did it, so must we all!
